Chairman's Welcome

The committee and I would like to warmly welcome you to the Maidstone River Festival. An event of this size would not be possible if it were not for the backing of Councillors and staff of our Borough Council.

This year promises to be bigger and better than before and a great family day out. Marvellous Maidstone provides the backdrop for a fabulous day out. Please be aware of the strict no alcohol enforcement that we have in all areas of the River Festival.

MRF’s theme this year is “At the Movies” so look for the best dressed boat. More than 200 boats will be moored along the River Medway as Maidstone plays host to over 20,000 visitors.

There is plenty of free entertainment and fun for the whole family to enjoy along the river. Starting in Whatman Park, you will be able to see clubs, associations and dance Schools. Harmony Hall will manage the stage and The Maidstone Lions Club will run the area for us (don’t miss the Storm troopers). Take the Kids down and do the Entertainer treasure hunt – It’s FREE to enter!!

In Brenchley Gardens there will be a mix of music organised by the Students from Invicta Girls Grammar School who are raising money for Teenage Cancer Care, please go up there and show them some support.

Up in the Archbishops Palace, you will find a new sound stage presented by Friday People where you will be able to enjoy over a dozen bands and constant music from morning to the Firework Finale at 10.30pm. There will also be a variety of food stalls and children’s rides. The Archbishops Palace is also host to a fantastic lottery with an amazing opportunity to win a brand new Peugeot 107 urban (get a FREE MOT worth £54.10 with every ticket).

Other highlights include the famous RAFT RACE, THE BOAT PROCESSION, THE TUG O’ WAR and THE FIREWORK FINALE.

Please enjoy the day, visit each Zone if you are around when they are active, but above all enjoy this FREE days’ entertainment in our great County town. However, do remember to stay safe and act responsibly along the riverside.
